As a doctor, I’m a great advocate of maintaining a healthy and active
lifestyle. It’s something I encourage in my patients but it’s also something I’m
passionate about myself. And for me, part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is
receiving my yearly flu jab.
Many people think that being fit and healthy will spare them from the flu,
but everyone is susceptible. Having a balanced diet and being active has many
benefits, but getting your flu jab the best way of ensuring you are protected against
getting the flu.
Flu is extremely contagious. It can be transmitted without any symptoms,

also be spread through the surfaces you touch. Research shows that the flu
virus can live on these surfaces for upwards of 24 hours, it’s scary when you think
how many places you go and people you interact with every day!
As a doctor, my job involves interacting with patients most days, some of
who are extremely vulnerable. By getting my flu jab, I can be sure that any contact
doesn’t endanger them or me, and I also know I’m not unwittingly spreading the
virus to my colleagues, friends and family.
My advice to you is to protect yourself, and those around you by getting
your yearly flu jab.
