Health Education England's (HEE) chief executive, Ian Cumming, has announced that it will be supporting the implementation of 5000 nursing associate places with additional funding support for employers.
£15,000 has been agreed to cover the cost of providing the programme and to support practice placement preparation and supervision.
HEE will also be releasing a support package of £3200 to support mentorship and supervision, quality assurance and developing provider readiness for the role.
The nursing associate apprenticeship standard, which is now complete, will be the delivery model for this programme.
A national implementation board has also been set up to oversee the sustainable growth of the role over the 2018/9 period. HEE will be writing to all sustainability and transformation partnership (STP) chairs and other stakeholders to outline the expansion plan.
